Lagos

It is a city of Faro district and is home to the city of 4 parishes, Bensafrim and Barão de São João; Lagos (São Sebastião and Santa Maria); Light; Odiáxere. The municipality is bordered to the north by Monchique, Portimão on the east by the west by Vila Bishop, northwest of Aljezur and the south by the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.

Lagos is closely related to the golden age of the Portuguese Discoveries, being an all-pole major tourist attraction of the Algarve, with its beaches, heritage and nightlife with great dynamism.

A bit of history of of Lagos

Today the historic center is a pedestrian zone, with a wide range of shopping, catering, bars and cafes. Most of the population lives all over the county, providing services and working in the tourist industry.

As award-winning destination, Lagos recently received the award “QualityCoast Gold Award”, a major certification award which demonstrates the council’s care, which promotes itself as a tourist destination of reference in terms of environmental quality, cultural heritage and local identity, which together with its beaches, Lagos it discloses as a remarkable and distinctive destination.
